Magic Frank on BBC Radio with OJ Borg

I was on BBC Radio with the brilliant OJ Borg — what a treat! The segment had a quick quiz, a chat about live magic at events, and a finale: a live trick over Zoom.

A quick quiz to start

We began with a light-hearted three-question quiz on magic. OJ was given the topic and had to find out as much as he could by researching  while a song was playing. He did his best but didn’t manage to get any right.

It was a fun way to share facts about magic and mind-reading.

The Questions (answers at the foot of the post)

  1. Overhand, Hindu and Faro are all types of what?
  2. The Magic Circle Motto is ‘Indocilis privata loqui’. What does it mean?
  3. Sherlock Holmes’ creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a big friend of Houdini’s. Unfortuntely, they fell out. What was the cause of their dispute?

Why live magic works for events

We talked about my work at weddings, corporate events, and private parties across Manchester and the North West. Live magic breaks the ice, lifts the energy, and creates moments people remember.

A live trick over Zoom

To close the interview, I performed a live trick over Zoom. Even through a screen, the reactions were priceless.

Quiz Answers

  1. They are all ways of shuffling playing cards.
  2. Not apt to disclose secrets.
  3. They fell out over spiritualism. Houdini worked to expose fake spiritualists. Conan Dolyle felt this was undermining genuine spiritualists (such as his wife).
Thanks to OJ Borg and the BBC Radio team for the invitation.
