My party is too small for a Magician “My party is too small to make it worth booking a magician.” This is something you may be thinking if you are arranging a small  party for less than 20 people. Perhaps it is a special birthday but you don’t want to book a hall and invite everybody you know. Not everyone enjoys the fuss and attention of a large party. Not everybody has a budget that will stretch to a hall,

Magicians are fascinated by secrets. It comes as no surprise,  then, that as a magician I am fascinated by the Freemasons: a society of secrets. Cronton and District Gun Club booked me to perform close up magic and a cabaret show at the weekend. It was their annual dinner. I was intrigued to find the event was being held in the Masonic Hall in Widnes. Perhaps, now would be my chance to explore the arcane world  of freemasonry in person

The next stage of our tour was to cross from Colombia to Panama. The most important point here was to avoid travelling overland through Darien Gap as it is notorious for crime. So, we took the opportunity to join San Blas Adventures and sail for four days, staying at islands along the way. Well, I think Sheila and I shifted the age profile, with most of the other travelers being somewhere between 25-30. We could well imagine them groaning inwardly

It’s great to be back in the UK after two months touring South and Central America. For the past ten years I have worked a semi-professional magician, performing primarily at the weekends. During the week I was a school teacher. I retired in July and now can devote myself fully to magic. However, my wife and I decided to a good break first. We began in Colombia. I taught at the Colegio Anglo Colombiao school when I was young. One

I always emphasise to clients is that I am a ‘magician who can entertain people of all ages.‘ What do I mean by this? Family Occasions First, take a typical wedding reception. It is quite common to have the couples’ parents, grandparents,  nephews and nieces. Their ages can range from 84 to 4: people of all ages. This applies to all sorts of family occasions. For example, Ruby/Silver wedding anniversary parties, 90th birthday parties, 18th birthday parties and christenings. All

Last week was a first for me: I became a wedding present! How it All Began It all began a few years a ago when I did a short stint on stage at Y Penwern beer festival. Y Pengwern is a community owned pub in Wales. Carol and Jim, who help run it, are friends going back to 1982. Carol asked me to do a short magic show on stage as an interlude to the music acts.  Well, I love

I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the Wycliffe Hotel entertaining Doreen and her guests. Everybody gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday. Doreen -or Dors as she is known to her family- is inspirational. She is sprightly, engaging and has a lively mind. You think to yourself: I hope that’s how I will be if I make it to my nineties. By the time I arrived they had finished eating. The staff, who were efficient and extremely helpful, were serving coffee.

On Friday I entertained the guests at Duxbury Park Golf Club’s Mad Hatter themed gin tasting evening. It was a great opportunity for guests to taste a wide selection of gins. There has been an explosion of popularity for this drink recently. This was a lovely opportunity to try out some of the many new flavours available. The Duxbury Park Golf Club management  team wanted to make the evening distinct for their guests. As well as the speciality gins there

I had a fantastic time performing at the Harry Potter Convention at the The Printworks in Manchester last weekend. The official name for the convention was Driagacon. About 3500 people attended over the two days. There was a host of actors, activities, exhibits, stalls, music and, of course, MAGIC. I was in the Bierkeller. I performed my comedy magic and mind-reading show in between Q+A sessions with actors from the films. So, Afsha Nazad ((Padma Patil), Louis Cordice (Blaise Zabini),

Most of my work is close-up at parties, receptions and other social gatherings. Recently, I have had the opportunity to do more stage work. I have already written about the lecture demonstrations I have given to various WI groups around Manchester. A couple of weeks ago I was delighted to have the opportunity to perform at the Chancers Cabaret in the Carlton Club in Whalley Range. It was only a 15-minute slot. My theme was the exploration of the
